# Comparisons for clinics choosing how patients get answered

The real options side by side, with facts you can check on each vendor’s own website, and a plain answer on which fits a clinic like yours.

- [Weave alternatives](https://agentblue.io/compare/weave-alternatives): If your practice runs on Weave and the renewal date is close, this page sets out four Weave alternatives side by side, with every fact taken from each vendor’s own website. The short version: NexHealth fits a practice that mainly wants booking, recall and forms software, Birdeye fits a dental group with several locations, AgentBlue fits a practice that wants the patient work done for it, and Podium fits a practice that mostly wants reviews, messages and payments in one place. Plenty of practices should stay with Weave, and we say when.
- [Podium alternatives](https://agentblue.io/compare/podium-alternatives): Your med spa’s inbox is busiest exactly when every treatment room is full, and if Podium is what handles it, a renewal is a good moment to look at Podium alternatives with fresh eyes. This page lines up four of them, using only what each vendor says on its own website. In short: Weave suits a med spa that wants phones, texting and reviews from one vendor, Birdeye suits a brand with several locations, AgentBlue suits a med spa that wants enquiries answered and followed up by a team that runs it, and NexHealth suits a practice that is more medical than aesthetic. Some med spas should keep Podium, and we say which.
- [Smith.ai alternatives](https://agentblue.io/compare/smith-ai-alternatives): If your clinic uses Smith.ai, or came close to signing, here are four Smith.ai alternatives compared on the points a clinic cares about, each fact checked on the vendor’s own website. In brief: Ruby suits a clinic that wants live people answering the phone, Weave suits a dental office or med spa that wants phones, texting and an AI receptionist inside one practice tool, AgentBlue suits a clinic that would rather hand the patient work to someone else, and Birdeye suits an organization running several locations. For some clinics Smith.ai is still the right answer, and the page says which ones.
- [AI receptionist vs answering service](https://agentblue.io/compare/ai-receptionist-vs-answering-service): The phone rings while your receptionist is checking a patient out, and somebody has to decide what happens next. This page compares the three ways clinics handle that: an AI receptionist, a person (your own receptionist or an outside answering service), or both together. The short version: a person is the better choice for calls that need judgment and local knowledge, an AI receptionist suits the high number of routine calls and the hours nobody is in, and many clinics end up with both, with the AI taking the first answer and handing anything delicate to a person.

## How do we compare vendors?

Every fact about a vendor comes from that vendor’s own public pages, read on the day we wrote the page. Each table cell links its source and shows the date we checked it. Where a vendor publishes nothing on a point, the cell says so, and that is dated too.

We compare the things a clinic owner needs before a demo: who each option is built for, what it covers, who sets it up and runs it, how a patient reaches a person, which systems it names, the contract terms it publishes and how it shows its work. Every page also says when to keep what you have.

## What do we leave out?

Prices, ratings, customer counts and results figures. Prices change often and many vendors quote per clinic, and the rest are each vendor’s own claims, which we cannot check. We also leave vendors’ compliance statements for you to request in writing. Each page is reviewed every quarter, and a fact we cannot re-check comes off.

## Where does AgentBlue sit on these pages?

We are one of the options, and we wrote the pages, so we hold our own entry to the same rule: only what we can stand behind, placed by fit for the reader rather than at the top. Whichever vendor you lean towards, run the same test calls on all of them. The guide on [how to test an AI receptionist](https://agentblue.io/guides/how-to-test-an-ai-receptionist) has the scripts.
